Forest Hills Therapy LLC
Hey, I'm Sam! I'm the solo-practitioner here at Forest Hills Therapy. I'm an independently licensed, professional clinical counselor with a supervisory designation (LPCC-S) and a decade of experience in the counseling field.
I'm currently providing virtual individual psychotherapy to those located in Ohio who are looking to regain a sense of balance and reduce their suffering.

You Are Not Alone
“The pandemic of mental anguish that afflicts our time cannot be properly understood, or healed, if viewed as a private problem suffered by damaged individuals.”
-Mark Fisher
Feeling distress over these uncertain times?
We are not designed to suffer alone, or to view concerns as private, isolated issues. At FHT, we don't over-pathologize appropriate distress during these uncertain times. We'll review community resources in addition to evidence-based coping skills as we experience unprecedented events, together.
Experiencing trauma or PTSD?
Our mantra is, "It's not what's wrong with you, it's what's happened to you." I don't believe that you are a problem to be solved or that therapy is about giving you judgment and homework until things feel better. As a trained trauma-informed clinician, I aim to give you language and evidence-based treatment to improve the quality of your life. But as your compassionate collaborator, I aim to walk with you with the understanding that you are the expert in your experiences.
Having family or relationship issues?
All roads in our mental health lead back to family. I believe we all learn how to survive in our current relationships based on an untold number of adverse childhood experiences, or lack thereof. With our time together, we'll draw connections to contributing factors from your past, aiming for an objective, not judgmental, understanding of how we got here.
In the words of Dr. Lindsay Gibson, who rocked the mental health world with her profound text, Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents, "It can be hard to look at your parents objectively because it might feel like you're betraying them. But that isn't the motive here."
Feeling life-long anxiety and depression?
We're excited to assist you in managing these concerns, getting to root causes, and breaking cycles of recurrent depression and anxious distress.
Do you suspect you've been misdiagnosed from previous providers?
Let's spend some time together to break stigmas and labels and identify a foundation of understanding your concerns so we can heal.
Do you suspect you're neurodivergent?
Let's not leave your concerns at simply feeling "anxious" or "depressed." At FHT, we'll work together to find the right resources and treat symptoms of possible neuro-developmental concerns such as ASD and ADHD.
Services
I'm skilled in providing individual psychotherapy as an eclectically trained clinician. By that I mean I am proficient in many common ways psychotherapists provide individual therapy. I often joke that over my decade of doing this I've had just about every kind of person as a client. But I've never seen your unique set of concerns and I'm not interested in turning you away if we can help it.
Please note that I am currently only accepting private pay, but am in the process of being credentialed by various common insurance companies. Please contact me for a free 15 minute consult and we can settle on an appropriate fee.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Do you ever find yourself thinking things like, "I'll never get better" or "I know there's nothing therapy can do for me?"
Well, we have around 60,000-80,000 thoughts in a day and most of them are pretty negative. To treat that, the current go-to for evidence-based treatment, CBT, focuses on how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are intertwined. As your therapist, we'll likely keep this approach in mind as we challenge, reframe, and navigate common cognitive distortions like the ones above.
As an eclectically trained clinician, we'll use this approach as needed, but will also likely dive into other approaches that go a bit deeper.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive therapeutic approach that integrates elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy with concepts from Eastern mindfulness practices, emphasizing the balance between acceptance and change.
EMDR
The most intimate form of therapy that can provide profound healing from long-term, open, internal wounds.
Dual-Diagnosis
At FHT, we're firm believers that substance use is usually the symptom of some other mental health concern. As a trained clinician working in various levels of care in the recovery community, having co-occurring trauma, depression, or mood-disorders is not something we shy away from treating.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Therapy is not all about what's wrong with you. Let's build up our core-values and put them to committed action for change. If that sounds like your preferred approach, we can't wait to walk with you in your mental health journey.
I-CBT
We can't think ourselves out of obsessive-thinking. I-CBT is a leading treatment modality for obsessive-compulsive disorder. Contact us to see if this modality could be beneficial for you.
Professional Supervision for Dependent Licenses
For LPC's and MFT's: As a formerly dependently-licensed LPC, I understand the struggles with getting your training hours completed and dealing with inconsistent supervisors. I also understand what its like to have incredible talented supervisors who have left indelible marks on my approach. Contact us to see if I'm a good fit and discuss costs.
